Grants
Mansfield District Council provides a wide range of financial assistance to voluntary and other bodies, plus a limited amount of funding to individuals. Applications can only be accepted from organisations or individuals from inside the Mansfield District, or who provide a benefit for people who live, work or visit our district.
Guiding Principles
In considering applications, we will assess the extent to which you can show how you benefit the people of Mansfield and that the service provided will either add to or complement our priorities listed below:
- Regeneration and Employment - Revitalising our district, town centres and neighbourhoods, encouraging inward investment and creating a climate for job creation and growth.
- Crime - Reducing crime and disorder.
- Housing - Ensuring there is an adequate supply of good quality, well managed housing which is accessible and affordable to those who need it.
- Protecting the Environment - Delivering the Local Development Framework for the provision of housing, commercial and retail development which will ensure a high quality and sustainable environment.
- Vulnerable People - Supporting the most vulnerable people in our district to help them live independent and fulfilled lives.
Types of Grant Available
Grant in Aid
The criteria and procedures for grant in aid funding is currently under review and any changes made will follow a consultation process prior to an anticipated approval date later this year. In the meantime grant in aid applications for the financial year April 2012 to March 2013 will follow the existing criteria as detailed below.
The grant in aid budget for the financial year April 2012 to March 2013 is £13,240 and the deadline for submitting applications for consideration is 1 July 2012. Please download the application form from the 'related media' section on the right.
Capital & Revenue General Criteria
- Only established non commercial organisations, voluntary groups and charities will be grant aided
- No organisation will be grant aided more than once in any financial year
- All groups/organisations must submit an independently audited balance sheet, statement of account or, depending on the circumstances, relevant financial information before consideration of their application. We may also require access to your organisation to inspect your records including books of account.
- All groups/organisations, where relevant, must include details of membership numbers within the District, along with current subscription levels.
- Projects, for which provision would normally be made through the Council or other Local Authority funded organisations, will not be grant aided.
- Retrospective applications for grant in aid in respect for specific events will not be grant aided.
- Where a group/organisation receives a grant in any financial year, the previous year's award will be taken into consideration.
- Grants are awarded on the condition that they are only used for the purpose intended. If the grants are otherwise applied you will be liable to repay the grant to us.
- We do not provide grant in aid to fund repairs to church owned premises or support religious activities unless the premises are of architectural importance and are treated as qualifying for a historic buildings grant.
Grant in Aid for Non Commercial Organisations, Voluntary Groups and Charities
Capital Grants
Purpose: To help fund one off planned expenditure on buildings, items of equipment and the purchase of a special service e.g. room hire, training.
Amount: Grants are available up to a maximum limit of £500 and if successful would be paid upon receipt of paid invoices for goods/services from your organisation. Where however, funding is being sought from various providers before purchase, funding approval letters from all other providers would be required before our payment would be made, together with a copy of the paid invoice, immediately after payment.
Revenue Grants
Purpose: To help with day to day running costs incurred in providing services to District residents. Evidence of other external funding is required as no revenue grant will be made to organisations whose sole source of income would be the Council.
Revenue grants are not available to uniformed/youth groups e.g. scouts and guides (please note Capital Grants are available). Financial assistance for revenue expenditure may be available from Nottinghamshire County Council which can be contacted at the following address: County Hall, West Bridgford, Nottingham NG2 7QP.

Grant in Aid for Promotion of the Arts
Revenue Grants - Assistance with Productions, Exhibitions and Publications - Grants are available to support groups based in the District in staging performances, exhibitions and publications.
Amount: The minimum grant available is £500, there is no set maximum but this will vary according to the type of organisation, the service provided and our budget limitations.
Capital Grants - Assistance with the Purchase of Equipment - Grants are available to assist groups in purchasing essential equipment.
Amount: Grants are available up to a maximum limit of £500 and if successful would be paid upon receipt of paid invoices for goods/services from your organisation. Grant in Aid for Individuals
Individual grants are for amateurs whose excellence is of national or international significance and the grant would allow you to participate in a national or international event or to achieve that status. The maximum grant available is £500.
Members Ward Allowance
As part of the Council's support to members in their developing roles as community champions each ward councillor has a budget of £1,000 for the financial year April 2012 to March 2013 to deal with local problems.
Councillors are empowered, in consultation with local communities to implement locally based improvements. The objective of this allowance is to enable citizens and communities through their local Councillor to have the opportunity to impact on neighbourhood issues with the ability to respond to the different needs of different communities.
