Group rooting for more trees
The Friends of Fisher Lane Park helped to plant two trees in the Mansfield park today (Tuesday 6 March).
The Friends group, which was formed in September last year, successfully applied for funding from Greenwood Community Tree Planting Grant Scheme.
The money was used to buy a Ginkgo tree and a Liquidamber tree, which were planted near the car park at the Rock Hill end of the park opposite the Rock Houses on Southwell Road.
Staff from Mansfield District Council's Parks department, members of the Friends group, Councillor for Racecourse ward Steve Garner and Councillor for Sandhurst ward Adrian Harpham were among those that attended the planting.
Mrs Sharon Rowton, the chair of the Friends group, said the group was made up of people who were committed to improving the park and its facilities. She said the group's long-term plans included increasing the number of trees in the park and improving facilities for children.
She said the group was always looking for new members. Anyone who is interested in becoming involved can email firstname.lastname@example.org

The group's AGM is at the Reindeer on 26 March at 7.15pm.
