We work with the Licensing Section to issue licenses and inspect certain businesses and activities which involve animals in order to protect health and welfare of animals and make sure that welfare regulations are complied with.
The type of business we issue licences for include:
- animal boarding kennels
- dog breeding
- pet shops
- riding stables
- dangerous wild animals
- performing animals e.g. at circuses
If you think you might need a licence, please contact us. We will advise you on whether you do need a licence and give you an idea of the conditions that you may will to meet. You may also need planning permission to before setting up, so you should contact the Planning Section too.
If you are concerned about an animal that you think is being neglected or badly treated, you should report this to the RSPCA cruelty line on 0870 5555 999 (available 24 hours).
