Mansfield honours its sporting heroes
Olympic and Commonwealth double Gold medallist Rebecca Adlington is amongst the nominees at the 2010 Mansfield Sports Recognition Awards.
Another fantastic year for Mansfield sport will be celebrated at the ceremony on Monday 6 December (7-9pm) at Mansfield Civic Centre.

Mansfield's best teams, coaches, team leaders, sportsmen and sportswomen will be honoured in adult, junior and disability categories.
The event is being organised by Mansfield District Council's Sports Development team.
Mansfield golden girl Rebecca Adlington, who won two Gold medals at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, has been nominated for the Sportsperson of the year award alongside World Bench Press and British Power Lifting Champion Phil Beniston, GB international snowboarder Jennifer Clarke and tennis player, Ann Brown who is the National Grass Court Champion for 55 to 60 year olds.
Awards will be made in the following categories:
- Junior Team of the Year
- Junior Sportsperson of the Year
- Junior Disabled Sportsperson of the Year
- Team of the Year
- Sportsperson of the Year
- Disabled Sportsperson of the Year
- Coach of the Year
- Volunteer of the Year
- Club of the Year.
Executive Mayor Tony Eggington said: "It has been another great year for sport in Mansfield and the Sports Recognition Awards are a great way to reward the achievements of individuals and teams.
"Mansfield has some exceptional sporting talent, putting our district on the sporting map at county, regional, national and international level. Success breeds success and I am sure their achievements can only inspire people of all ages and abilities to greater things."
Tickets are available for the Sports Recognition Awards priced £2 for adults and £1 for juniors (under 18) and can be purchased on the door.
