Our dynamic museum and art gallery contains a fascinating mix of permanent displays of local art and artefacts. Let the exquisite Buxton watercolours take you back to the turn of the century. Savour the delicate beauty of the Pinxton porcelain. Discover a new green world in the hands-on XplorActive environment gallery.
Images of Mansfield introduces you to the social history of the area, and Escapes - a rolling programme of national and local temporary exhibitions - ensures there is always something new to see, be it works from the vibrant local amateur scene or nationally known professionals.
The last of the permanent galleries focuses on helping children (and their parents!) understand the crucial part they play in sustaining their environment. Inter-active displays encourage them to trace, weigh, find, draw, peep and twist their way through a journey from the kitchen to the edge of the wood, via the street, the park and the river. Trails and art materials are available for those who want to Xplor just that bit more Actively!
Our ArtBeat programme of creative school holiday activities is another example of our child friendly policy ensuring there really is something for everyone.
For those of you who are teachers you might be interested in our ever popular workshops on a wide variety of topics. From 'Seaside Holidays' to 'Toys and Games' these National Curriculum linked sessions will enhance your subject with a fun and energetic day out.
So if it's a while since you dropped in, come and check out what you've been missing.
