Important changes to Council Tax Benefit from 1st April 2013
Council Tax Benefit will be abolished from 1st April 2013. Every authority will have to provide it's own scheme and Mansfield District Council will be operating it's own local Council Tax Reduction Scheme from 1st April 2013 to take the place of Council Tax Benefit.
Under Council Tax Benefit the maximum amount of Council Tax Reduction which can be awarded is 91.5% of the Council Tax liability. This means that anyone who does not have anything to pay towards their Council Tax at present will have a small amount to pay from 1st April 2013.
Persons over the age of 61 who have reached the qualifying age for guarantee pension credits will be protected from the changes and will still continue to receive the maximum help available.
This does not mean you will be protected from the age of 61, the table below provides examples of the date you will be protected from and is shown in the column on the right side.
If you need further clarification on the qualifying age for guarantee pension credits please contact the Pension Service or visit the DirectGov website.
