Sign of the times
Mansfield District Council is delighted to receive the principal sign from the old Mansfield Brewery Building.
This iconic piece of Mansfield's history was kindly donated by the Cuddy Group who have been employed on behalf of the District Council to carry out the demolition at the Brewery site and will take pride of place at Mansfield Museum.
The sign, which is approximately three feet in height, about thirty years old, and was formerly situated above the entrance to the main brewhouse, will not be on display immediately to allow time for an appropriate display to be organised for it.
Paul Geary, Director of the Cuddy Group, commented: "This sign is an iconic part of Mansfield's brewing heritage and the Cuddy Group think it only appropriate that it should be donated to the District Council."
Kate Allsop, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration at Mansfield District Council welcomed the donation of the sign: "I am delighted that the Cuddy Group have agreed that Mansfield Museum will be custodians of this sign."
"Mansfield was able to boast the country's largest independent brewer and in years to come future generations will be able to visit the museum and will learn about Mansfield's place in brewing history."
