Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA)
Publication of SHLAA 2011
(Base Date 1st April 2011)
Mansfield District Council has now published its latest Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA) updating the work undertaken to produce the first SHLAA which was published in August 2009.
The SHLAA identifies a number of sites which require consideration as part of Local Development Plan Documents (DPD's), such as any forthcoming allocations document. It does however also identify a smaller number of sites considered suitable for inclusion within 5 year land supply calculations, in line with guidance set out within PPS3. Information from SHLAA therefore impacts on figures contained within the HMR which also has a base date of 1st April.
For the first time the authority are publishing both documents concurrently and have therfore applied the same base dates to both the SHLAA and the Housing Monitoring Reports due to the inter-relationship between both documents.
The purpose of SHLAA is to identify land available in the District for potential future housing sites.
The SHLAA documents will form part of the evidence base for the forthcoming Local Development Framework (LDF) which will eventually replace the existing Local Plan.
It is important to stress that sites considered 'Appropriate' through the SHLAA will still be subject to the plan making process and will not necessarily be allocated in the emerging LDF. The LDF process will be subject to Council approval and ultimately considered by an independent Planning Inspector at an Examination in Public.
Methodology
A joint methodology for the Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA) for the Nottingham Outer Housing Market Area (HMA) was produced by Mansfield, Ashfield and Newark and Sherwood District Councils' in July 2008 to cover all the areas within the three districts with the exception of Hucknall which will be assessed using the Nottingham Core SHLAA. The Methodology will be used by the Council as the basis for the assessments of sites put forward for residential or mixed use development within the District.
Site Submissions
You may submit a site that you wish to be assessed for housing or mixed use purposes at any time using the submission form available for downloading on this page. Sites will then be assessed as part of future SHLAA reports which will be produced on an annual basis.
