Quarry Lane clean up

Monday 7th September 2007

Members of the Maun Valley Conservation Group got together at the weekend to clean up one of the district's local nature reserves.

The group of around 15 people attacked Quarry Lane Local Nature Reserve armed with litter pickers and bin liners and uncovered some interesting rubbish. A safe, which appeared to have been stolen and then abandoned, was discovered amongst other debris, including shopping trolleys, plastic bottles and electrical wire.

The small, white safe has been handed in to Mansfield Police Station.

Councillor Tom Appleby, who is a member of the Maun Valley Conservation Group, said:

"I was really pleased with the amount of people who turned up for the litter pick and really got stuck in. Regular litter picks will help to keep the nature reserve looking the way it should and make it a more pleasant environment all round."
