Summer in the Streets
Summer in the Streets is a nine week programme of events organised by Mansfield District Council and Mansfield Town Centre Partnership. The festival is in its seventh year of bringing fun, colour and entertainment to the town centre and its surroundings.
Mansfield Summer in the Streets is back for 2009 with a ten week festival bringing fun, music, laughter and enjoyment to Mansfield town centre!
TASTE of summer is coming to the streets of Mansfield – and the good news is, it's all FREE.
Mansfield District Council and Mansfield Town Centre Partnership arrange events and entertainment in the Market Place most weeks throughout the year, providing events equipment, funding, organisation, and promotion to encourage visitors to Mansfield Town Centre.
The annual, colourful Summer In the Streets extravaganza is back for a seventh year and promises street entertainment, the chance for schools to showcase their talented students, one-off Saturday events and two major music-based festivals to Mansfield over the next three and a half months.
It is all part of a year-round programme of free town centre events staged by Mansfield Town Centre Partnership and Mansfield District Council – in partnership with the Four Seasons Shopping Centre, Experience Nottingham, the Chad, 103.2 and West Notts College.
The highlight of this year's Summer in the Streets is PARTY IN THE PARK which is 'the one and only' place to be this summer with thousands of revellers sure to enjoy a wide range of entertainment in Mansfield's Titchfield Park.

This year's party on Saturday 1st August, from 12noon to 9pm, features star names, local singers and children's entertainment in the meadow area. 2009 will see three celebrities singing – headed by pop star Chesney Hawkes who had a massive UK number 1 hit 'The One and Only'. His one-hour set of live music, backed by a live band, will be preceded by two TV soap stars singing, presenting and mingling with the crowds. Look out for Katherine Kelly, 'Becky' from 'Coronation Street', and Will Mellor, the star of 'Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps' and also 'Hollyoaks'.

In July, music is the name of the game for another day-long festival – Summer Music Sundae, a new feature of Summer in the Streets launched last year and attracting 2,000 partygoers to Mansfield Market Place to listen to tribute acts.
This year's event, on Sunday 12th July from 11am to 5.30pm, covers a wide range of genres and eras, with tributes to Oasis, the Beatles, Westlife, Elvis, Tom Jones and George Michael.

Summer in the Streets will again include two weeks of entertainment from local schoolchildren during Schools in the Streets – from Monday 6th-Friday 17th July. Each lunch time for two weeks, different schools from around the area will perform a dance piece, music, or drama in the Market Place. Town centre events and promotions co-ordinator Lisa Vincent says : "There's going to be plenty of entertainment so let's just hope the weather holds out. We've got a variety of entertainment starting in July and going right through the summer "There's a good mix for people young and old alike and it fits in with the summer holidays for all the youngsters. Hopefully we will be able to build on the tremendous success of last year, so come on down and let us entertain you."
As well as Party in the Park, Summer Music Sundae and Schools in the Streets, each Saturday throughout the summer there will be entertainment in Mansfield Market Place. Look out for:
* Saturday 27th June – Fairly Famous Family tennis fun
* Saturday 11th July – Street artist Jason Maverick recreates Lord Nelson

WANNABE performers are being given the chance to take to the stage at this year's Party in the Park. Music acts of all ages and genres are invited to come forward and showcase their talent at the annual summer event.
They will feature alongside national acts on the main stage at the Party, on Saturday 1st August in Titchfield Park — pop star Chesney Hawkes and TV soap stars Will Mellor (Hollyoaks) and Katherine Kelly (Becky in Coronation Street).
Party in the Park is part of the town's Summer in the Streets extravaganza and organiser Lisa Vincent, town centre events and promotions co-ordinator, said: "It is a family event and we're looking for a mixture of acts and styles."
