Council Housing Developments

The council has identified through its local plan preparation that due to population growth and changes in how households are formed there will be a need for about 7,500 new homes between 2013 and 2033. There are already planning permissions in place which could deliver about two-thirds of this requirement so this leaves a balance of about 2,800 to be planned for during this period.

As part of delivering new housing in the district, the council is committed to increasing the amount of good quality affordable housing available for its residents. Since 2010, the council has been building new council housing both for rent and for shared ownership. It has built new homes for families but also specialist housing for older people and disabled people.
