Grass cutting frequencies

We aim to cut grass on a two week cycle. This is weather dependent and inclement weather may increase the times of the mowing cycle.

We will cut the grass on all Mansfield District Council owned land and County Council highways including:

The winter maintenance programme begins in early October and normally continues until the end of March. It includes, tree and shrub planting and pruning, landscaping and development, path refurbishments and installation of benches and litter bins.

Amenity areas are cut up to 15 times from March to October.  After the grass is cut, parks operatives will clear cuttings from paths and roads.

Bowling and golf greens are cut three times per week during the playing season, reducing to once weekly until November. It is cut as required through the winter period.

Cricket squares are cut twice weekly during the playing season from April to September. The clippings are removed as this is best practice for fine turf areas.

Football pitches are cut as required.

Wildflower meadows are cut once a year. The cuttings are removed and composted to prevent the build-up of nutrients in the soil, which can change the species that grow in the meadows.

We do not cut grass that is:

  • privately owned
  • on properties/estates owned by bodies other than Mansfield District Council
  • when vehicles do not leave access or are parked on grassed areas.

Play areas

All of our play equipment conforms to the European Playground Equipment Standard.

Our play areas are inspected on a weekly basis by our qualified play inspector and annually by an independent inspector. Repair and maintenance work is carried out when needed, depending on the recommendations from the inspectors.
