Have you completed your Household Enquiry Form?

Residents in Mansfield district are being urged to make sure they can vote at future elections by ensuring they are on the electoral register.

People who have not returned the Household Enquiry Form that was sent to every house in July, or responded to reminders will soon be visited at home by a canvasser.

The canvassers, who carry official Mansfield District Council identification, will not ask to enter residents' properties and will assist householders to complete the form on the doorstep. Some canvassers will be using portable electronic devices to collect information.

The aim of the form is to ensure that the electoral register is up to date and to identify any residents who are not registered so that they can be encouraged to do so.

The easiest thing to do is respond to the original form or a reminder online, by telephone or by post, using the pre-paid reply envelope. It is especially relevant for people who may have moved home in the past year.

Completing the Household Enquiry Form is a legal requirement and failure to do so could result in a £1,000 fine.

With Mayoral, District and Parish elections due to take place in Mansfield in May 2019, this is an opportunity for residents to make sure they will be able to vote.

Hayley Barsby, Electoral Registration Officer at Mansfield District Council, said: "I would encourage everyone to register to vote to ensure that you are able to have your say at future elections. To do this, simply check the form and respond as quickly as possible".

For further information, residents should contact the Elections team on 01623 463345.
