Victoria Street fire

Mansfield District Council worked alongside the emergency services at the scene of last night's fire on Victoria Street.

Following the evacuation of a number of homes within the Police cordon, the council's Housing Needs team worked to help those evacuated from their homes find accommodation for the night and a small number of families were placed into temporary accommodation. Most others are believed to have arranged to stay with family and friends.

The council's Building Control team were also in attendance and worked with the Fire Service to carry out an initial assessment of the structure of the building last night and have returned to the scene first thing today to continue their work in daylight.

Thank you to everyone in the local community who helped - including staff at Superbowl, who provided a place of safety for local residents and refreshments for all those involved throughout the evening.

The council will continue to provide residents with support for as long as needed.

Further updates will be provided when available.
