Helping to create a clean and pleasant environment

We are striving to create a clean and pleasant environment for everyone in the district.

Street cleaning

Our street cleaning crews work seven days a week. They clean our district by:

  • sweeping roads
  • clearing leaves
  • litter picking
  • emptying litter bins
  • removing graffiti
  • clearing dog fouling
  • removing dead animals from the highway
  • removing drug related litter (including needles), and
  • clearing fly-tipping.

We are responsible for keeping the land and highways within the district free from litter and refuse. This is in accordance with the Environmental Protection Act 1990. The standards for street cleansing are set by law and can be found in the Code of practice on litter and refuse.

We are only responsible for public areas and are unable to maintain privately owned land.

Litter bins

There are over 500 litter bins across the district. These are emptied on a regular basis.

If you find a litter bin which is full, please report it to us.

Please always use a litter bin or take your litter home with you. If an area needs litter picking, please contact us.

Helping to create a clean and pleasant environment

You can help make Mansfield a clean and pleasant place by doing the following:

  • Put all your litter in a bin or take it home with you.
  • Tell other family members that dropping litter is a crime.
  • Put cigarette ends and chewing gum into a bin, not the floor.
  • Let us know if you see anyone fly-tipping or spraying graffiti. See our fly-tipping page and graffiti page.
  • Let us know if you see clinical waste or needles by calling 01623 463463 or reporting it on our online form.
  • Ensure you carry dog waste bags and clear up after your dog every time you take them out.
  • Dispose of your full dog waste bags in a bin or take them home.
  • Do not overload your bins or put extra waste (for example black bags) beside your bin on collection day.
